Position Overview

The Emergency Department RN provides direct patient care in a high-volume Emergency Department and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

The department emphasizes adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to remain positive under pressure. The RN will care for patients with a wide range of emergency and medical needs while performing clinical assessments, IV starts, phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring, and other Emergency Department procedures.

Number of Beds: 40+
Staff: 120+
Patient-to-RN Ratio: 4:1

The ratio may consist of approximately 3 rooms and 1 hallway bed during high-volume periods.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Required Clinical Skills

• IV starts – Required
• Phlebotomy – Required
• Cardiac monitoring and interpretation – Required

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience working in a high-pressure environment
• Previous medical experience such as:
  • RN
  • Medic
  • Technician
  • Similar healthcare role

Required Certifications – RN

• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• TNCC – Required
• ENPC – Required
• CPI – Required

Emergency Department Equipment

The department utilizes:

• Cardiac monitors
• EKGs
• Ultrasound (US)
• Belmont Rapid Infuser
• IO drills
• Lifepak
• Other emergency care equipment

EMR

Meditech

The RN will use the facility's Meditech system for clinical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

The Emergency Department RN is responsible for:

• Providing direct patient care in the Emergency Department
• Performing patient assessments and monitoring
• Starting IVs
• Performing phlebotomy and specimen collection
• Monitoring cardiac rhythms and interpreting cardiac information
• Recognizing changes in patient condition
• Responding appropriately to urgent and emergent patient needs
• Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice staff, nurses, paramedics, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team
• Maintaining accurate patient documentation in Meditech
• Following hospital policies, emergency care protocols, and safety standards
• Supporting efficient patient flow in a high-volume emergency environment
