L&D unit houses antepartum and intrapartum patients. This unit has 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms. This agency contracts would not be required to work OB triage.
The postpartum unit has 15 rooms, with 2 additional flex rooms that can be used for labor or PP patients. Postpartum and post-operative GYN patients are bedded in this unit. There are also 5 rooms that be converted into adult med/surg overflow but those patients would be cared for by med/surg staff, NOT OB RNs.
Patient assignments are based upon patient's acuity per AWHONN staffing standards. In L&D, the nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1 but could be 1:2 or 1:3 (antepartum and/or cervical ripening), again depending upon patient acuity.
