Position Summary:
 

The Surgical Scrub Technician provides direct patient care support and performs unit-support activities within the operating room. The candidate must be highly proficient in CVOR/Heart Surgery and also experienced in Orthopedic, Neurological, and Robotic Surgery.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Scrub surgical cases and anticipate the surgeon's needs before and during procedures.
• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment according to physician preference cards.
• Maintain accurate instrument, sponge, towel clip, Allis, and Edna counts throughout procedures.
• Ensure complete and accurate instrument trays and immediately report any discrepancies.
• Assist with dressings and cast applications following procedures.
• Update surgeon preference cards according to facility processes.
• Provide quality patient care and maintain compliance with OR safety and infection-control standards.
• Participate in teaching, process improvement, and departmental initiatives.
• Maintain all required licensing, certifications, compliance training, TB testing, HIPAA, and safety requirements.

Required Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of hospital-based Surgical Scrub experience
• Strong CVOR / Heart Surgery experience – Required
• Proficiency in:
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Robotic Surgery
• Must be able to scrub general cases when cardiac cases are not scheduled.
• Strong knowledge of OR procedures, surgical instrumentation, and count policies.

Certifications:

• BLS – Required
• Scrub Tech Certification – Preferred
• Completion of an approved Operating Room Technician program or demonstrated equivalent technical skills through on-the-job training preferred.
