Travel Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Acute Care Medicine)

Location: St. Louis, Missouri
Shift: Days, 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM)
Contract Length: Confirm with agency; source lists 91 contract weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
Start Date: Approximately 3–4 weeks after compliance clearance
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
- BLS/BCLS certification.
- ACLS certification required by the compliance deadline for Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
- EPIC experience — HARD STOP; candidates without EPIC experience will be redirected.
- Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias.
- Must pass the Relias EKG exam.
- Ability to float within the service line.
- Missouri RN license or eligible compact license. Missouri license may be pending; Illinois license must be in hand at submission.
- Comfortable caring for patients at a ratio of approximately 1:3–5.
- Must live at least 75 miles from the facility.
- Willingness to work every other weekend.
Clinical Skills
- Medical-Surgical nursing and acute care management.
- BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula management.
- Central and peripheral line care, PICC management, and IV starts.
- Blood product administration and phlebotomy.
- Heparin and insulin management.
- Chest tube care, wound care, and wound vac management.
- PCA management and oxygen administration.
- Isolation precautions and PPE.
Preferred Qualifications
- NIHSS certification.
- Experience with feeding tubes, colostomy/ileostomy care, PCA, and non-invasive airway management.
Patient Population
Adults and geriatrics with conditions including acute renal failure, pneumonia, acute pancreatitis, UTIs, encephalopathy, cirrhosis, sickle cell pain crisis, chest pain, COPD, asthma exacerbation, syncope, and diabetic ketoacidosis.

- Facility Status: Magnet and teaching hospital; Level I Trauma Center
- Staffed Beds: 1,266
- Unit: Acute Care Medicine, 38 beds
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: No
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- RTO: Maximum 7 days; must be submitted upfront. No RTO during the first week.
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- Parking: Paid parking; fees vary by lot and schedule.
- Vaccinations: COVID-19 vaccine not required; flu vaccine required, with medical or religious exemptions permitted.
