Description
Open Heart Surgery Tech
Location
- Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- 4 ten-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday
- Nights, weekends, and holidays are covered by call only
- Call is dependent on staffing; typically 1–2 weekends a month and 2 nights a week
Unit / Department
- Open Heart Surgery | CVOR Tech
- CVOR runs 2–3 rooms each day
Required Qualifications
- BLS
- CVOR Technologist with 2 years of experience
- CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
- Completion of a surgical technologist program
- Experience working with Cardiac Surgery patients
- Experience in Preceptor roles
- Primary scrubbing in complex open heart procedures including CABG, valve repair/replacement (AVR, MVR, TVR), Bental, aortic dissections, ECMO, ventricular assist device (VAD) implants, and related cardiothoracic cases
- Experience with phalanx table setup for open heart cases
- Certified Surgical Technologist experience
Preferred
- Congenital pediatric open heart experience
- Assisting experience
Clinical Details
- Common cases include CABG, valve repair/replacement (AVR, MVR, TVR), Bental, aortic dissections, ECMO, VAD implants, TAVRS, carotid endarterectomy, peripheral vascular bypasses, amputations, traumas, thoracic cases, and tracheostomy
- The unit is accredited to start heart transplants but has not completed one yet
- Floating may include general surgery, ortho, neuro, peds, and SPD if CVOR has low census
- Surgical scrubs are provided, and a locker room is available; personal lock required for locker
- Orientation includes 1 day of mandatory education in the office plus 2–5 days of CVOR-specific orientation
