Schedule

• Position: Surgical Technologist – CVOR / Cardiac-Thoracic
• Facility: University Hospital, Madison, WI
• Shift: Day/Evening, 3 × 12 hours
• Hours: 10:40 AM – 11:10 PM
• Workdays: Monday–Friday variation
• Contract: 17–26 weeks
• Alternative Schedule: 4 × 12-hour shifts considered
• Weekend Call: Friday 3 PM through Monday 7 AM, every 4–5 weeks
• Friday Shift: Not scheduled on the Friday of weekend call
• Orientation: 40 hours
• Floating: Required as needed
• Local Radius: 50 miles; local candidates not accepted

Required Documents

• CST certification
• BLS (AHA)
• Completion of a Surgical Technologist program or 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience
• Updated resume with detailed CVOR/cardiothoracic experience
• Required skills checklist and submission documents
• Flu vaccination (medical/religious exemptions only)

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of surgical scrub experience
• Level I trauma or similarly sized hospital experience
• Experience with complex cardiac/thoracic surgeries
• Ability to scrub independently as the sole scrub technologist; no second scrub support
• Tracheostomy experience required
• Transplant experience (kidney and liver) is mentioned as required in the main description, but another section says it is preferred. Confirm with the recruiter before submission.

Must-Have Clinical Skills

• Cardiac / CVOR: CABG, ascending aortic procedures, mitral valve surgery, LVAD/VAD, ECMO
• Thoracic: VATS, lobectomy, lung resection, thoracotomy
• Robotics: Da Vinci Xi thoracic robotic surgery
• Transplant: Kidney and liver transplant experience, subject to recruiter clarification
• General OR and complex surgical cases

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, instruments, and sterile supplies.
• Scrub and assist surgeons during complex cardiac and thoracic procedures.
• Maintain sterile technique and monitor patient safety throughout surgery.
• Handle surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with robotic procedures using the Da Vinci Xi system.
• Support CABG, valve, vascular, thoracic, and transplant procedures.
• Perform instrument counts and support OR turnover.
• Work independently and float as required.
