Job Opportunity: ECMO Specialist (Registered Nurse)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Requires 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Accepts first-time travel nurses.
  • Cardio Help experience required.
  • Float assignments to NICU, PICU, CVPICU units.
  • Every 3rd weekend required.
  • Patient ratio: 1:2.
  • Serve as a pump specialist for patients on ECMO (VA ECMO and VV ECMO) for cardiac or non-cardiac reasons.
  • If no ECMO patients are present, work as a bedside nurse in ICU caring for cardiac, non-cardiac, or NICU patients based on unit needs.
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
  • Minimum of 2 years of ECMO ICU experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Cardio Help experience required.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Certifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as applicable
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) as applicable

Required Licenses and Verifications

  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
  • State license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).

Required Competencies and Testing

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% or higher required for NICU Pharmacology section if applicable).
  • Unit Competency Exam.
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates).

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, by MD, DO, PA, NP, or APRN.
  • Fit mask test completed within 12 months prior to start.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required.
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months prior to start; annual updates required. Positive TB requires additional documentation.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required for low/equivocal titers. Medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or proof of vaccine series required; no declinations allowed except approved medical or religious exemptions.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of disease; boosters required for low/equivocal titers. Medical or religious exemptions accepted.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required for new starts beginning 10/1/2025; exemptions allowed with agency-approved documentation.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 12 months prior to start; instant tests accepted.

Background and Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma acceptable.
  • Nebraska DHHS Adult & Child Services Registry Search required within 30 days of start.
  • Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.
  • Two professional references within 2 years of start.

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not required.
  • Must complete a facility-specific Cognito form prior to start.
  • Must be able to work every 3rd weekend.
  • Patient care includes managing ECMO pumps and bedside nursing in critical care units.
