Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Surgery

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: Cardiovascular Pre-Op (CV PreOp), located in The Heart Tower
• Number of Beds: 4
• Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Staffing includes RNs with support from CNC, secretary, and manager shared with CVOR
• Equipment: GE Carescape Monitoring, Fuji ultrasound
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
• On-Call: Required to stay late 1-2 times per week
• Floating: Within scope of practice and experience

Job Responsibilities & Skills

• Work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity patient area
• Perform large-bore IV starts, chin-to-toe hair removal, medication administration, skin assessments
• Assist with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
• Transport patients to OR; assist with induction/intubation, positioning, and skin preparation
• Maintain excellent communication with interdepartmental teams
• Utilize BCMA (Bar Code Medication Administration) and ensure excellent documentation
• Critical thinking skills are essential

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Critical care nursing experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
