Clinical Lab Scientist - Travel/Contract

Location: Orange, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Laboratory
• Shift: Night, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (typically 21:30 to 7:30, may flex to 20:00 start)
• Workweek: 40 hours
• Facility Type: Large acute care hospital (426 staffed beds), Level I Trauma, teaching hospital preferred
• High volume lab setting: 30-50 samples daily, heavy blood bank workload including type/screen and crossmatch
• Weekend Requirement: Rotating weekends and holidays; weekends may exceed every other weekend to meet unit needs
• Floating: Not required
• On-call: Not required
• Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered
• Local radius: 50 miles

Required Qualifications

• Valid Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) license in California
• Minimum 2 years of Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment as a Clinical Lab Scientist
• Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
• Experience with Wellsky instrumentation
• Experience with Immucor instrumentation
• Experience working with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Licenses

• Must hold a valid California Clinical Lab Scientist license
• ASCP-BB certification required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications as applicable
• Other certifications (PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, EFM, IV Certification, CPI, NIH Stroke, MAB) to be verified as required by clinical track
• Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Fit mask test required annually (onsite if no valid record within 1 year)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or declination accepted:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
  • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
• 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (10-panel for some per diem candidates)

Background & Compliance

• Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
• Education verification required
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment
• Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
• Work history verification required if exceptions to references are requested
• State-specific background checks and registries as applicable

• Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS

• Guaranteed hours: facility may call off once per two-week pay period

This position is ideal for experienced Clinical Lab Scientists with strong blood bank expertise and prior travel contract experience, ready to work night shifts in a high-volume, large hospital setting.
