Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Intermediate Care (IMC) Acute Med/Progressive Care and IMC Thoracic units.
  • Shift: Evening/Night, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, Monday through Friday.
  • Schedule includes every other weekend and some holidays.
  • Patient care areas require telemetry oncology, cardiac, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience.
  • Ventilator and transplant patient care experience required.
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to starting.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Telemetry experience.
  • Ventilator experience.
  • Transplant patient care experience.

Certifications & Testing

  • Must pass facility-specific Telemetry test (Adult Telemetry Test via LMS platform) before start.
  • Telemetry test requires:
    • Minimum 80% overall score.
    • 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory.
    • Correct answers on all 3rd degree heart block questions.
  • Candidates have up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2nd failure. Failure after 3rd attempt results in contract cancellation.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications must be current and renewed according to facility policy.

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search.
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID Form required within 90 days of start.
  • Education verification as applicable (RN diploma or degree verification).
  • Drug screening required per agency standards.
  • Physical exam recommended to meet agency standards (not required by facility).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
  • Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; exemptions accepted with documentation.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form required for direct patient care providers.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (September to April).
  • Other vaccines (e.g., Meningococcal) required if working in specific departments.

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge must meet facility specifications (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons).
  • Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing required.
  • References: Two clinical references within the last 3 years required by agency standard.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Work primarily in telemetry and progressive care units with complex patient populations including oncology, cardiac, ventilated, and transplant patients.
  • Night shift with 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.
  • Some weekend and holiday coverage required.
