Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Position Details

Specialty: Registered Nurse – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Shift: Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Guaranteed 40 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
No block scheduling
No call requirements
Time off (RTO) restrictions: Maximum 5 days off, no more than 2 consecutive days; no time off before/after holidays or on weekends
Mandatory floating within scope of practice to other units as needed

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Illinois
Minimum 2 years of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience in an acute care setting
Certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Competencies & Testing Requirements

Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months prior to start if starting on/after 4/14/24)
Color Blind Testing Online (required within 12 months prior to start if starting on/after 1/16/24)
Competency Exam (required within 12 months prior to start if starting on/after 4/14/24)

Health & Safety Requirements

Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year prior to start, updated annually; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months prior to start, updated annually (PPD not accepted as of 12/15/2025)
Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months prior to start
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; low titer requires booster
Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; low titer requires booster
Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year prior to start
Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start, updated annually (marijuana not required)
Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/1 – ~4/1)

Parking: Adjacent garage, approximately 2–3 minute walk to hospital entrance

Prior travel experience is not required for this position
Background checks and verifications must be current and comply with Illinois state and facility requirements
Floating to other units is mandatory as per facility policy
