PICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Seattle, Washington
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with an average daily census of 2-4 patients and 6 rooms/beds.
- Staffing ratio is approximately 1 nurse to 2 patients.
- Floating to NICU or other units within skill set may be required; orientation provided.
- Patient diagnoses include Pediatric Critical Care, ENT, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Post-Op/Pre-Op care.
- Special procedures include breathing treatments, chest tube care, CPAP/BiPAP, high-frequency vents, oscillators, procedure sedation, rapid sequence intubation drugs, trach care, ventilator management, blood/blood product administration, CVP monitoring, 12-lead EKGs, drains, epidural and PCA pumps, PICC/central lines, port-a-cath care, syringe pumps, traction/halo/pin care, triple lumen catheter care, and wound vac.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), with PICU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
Work Environment & Scheduling
- Perm staff self-schedule first; travelers must meet unit needs.
- Return to Office (RTO) up to 3 days accepted; more than 3 days requires screening.
- Scrubs of any color allowed.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Must have a background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, updated annually. Includes SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and sex offender checks, education verification, and motor vehicle record if applicable.
- Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months required. Instant tests acceptable if paired with attestation.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Fit mask test (travel only) required annually unless valid record on file.
- Immunizations/vaccinations including TDAP (within 10 years), MMR (2 doses or positive titer), Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination), Varicella (2 doses or positive titer), Flu vaccine during flu season (declinations accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted).
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format.
- Skills Checklist: Required annually for applicable units.
Training & Competency Requirements
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Competency exams specific to specialty as required.
- Annual regulatory and specialty-specific modules via WorkRamp platform, including trauma-informed care and system-wide regulatory requirements.
- Epic training modules completion required for access (transcripts must be submitted).

- Floating policy acknowledgment required; may float to other facilities within reasonable distance.
- Background and credentialing requirements may vary slightly based on facility and state regulations.
- Compact license holders must complete Washington Multi-State Licensed Nurse Demographic Attestation prior to assignment start.
