Labor and Delivery Nurse

Overview

• Travel contract in Santa Maria, California
• 13-week assignment
• Night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• 12-hour shifts

Required Qualifications

• Active California RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• AWOHNN fetal monitoring certification
• NRP
• 2 full years of Labor and Delivery experience

Unit Details

• Labor and Delivery / Postpartum unit
• 14 Labor and Delivery beds
• 6 triage beds
• 2 OR suites
• 28 postpartum beds
• About 250 births per month

Clinical Expectations

• Must circulate for C-sections
• Scrubbing experience is preferred
• May float to postpartum
• Every other weekend required
• May be on standby
• Works holidays with permanent staff rotation

Patient Population

• Antepartum
• High-risk deliveries
• Substance abuse
• Pre-eclampsia
• Insulin-dependent diabetes

Work Environment

• 2:1 laboring ratio
• 1:4 couplet care ratio
• 3-shift floor orientation
• Charge nurse typically does not take a patient assignment
• OB tech support available on day and night shift
• No vents
• No IV team
• OB/neonatologist not in house, but available if needed
• RT and pharmacy available 24/7
