Overview

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN role
  • 2 years of MS-Tele experience
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • Driver’s license must be submitted

Preferred Experience

  • Prior neuro experience

Assignment Details

  • Float assignment required within a 60-mile zone
  • No home base facility
  • May be assigned to multiple units, including general MS-Tele and specialty areas such as cardiac, neuro, oncology, rehab, renal, bariatrics, ortho, trauma, and ED observation
  • May be asked to float to ICU, PCU/stepdown, and MS-Tele
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
  • Heparin drips may be titrated
  • Respiratory therapy equipment is available
  • Charge nurse is designated on each unit and usually does not take an assignment unless necessary
  • Nursing assistants are available
  • Scrub color is any color

Schedule and Expectations

  • Schedule is made by leadership 6 weeks at a time
  • Travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in permanent scheduling
  • 6–9 weekend shifts are required in a 6-week schedule
  • May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
  • Call or standby is rare and only for low census
  • Time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment starts
  • Orientation includes 1–2 days with a preceptor
  • Clinicians must be in state for the week of orientation even if modules are completed remotely

Housing

  • Traveler is responsible for obtaining housing that makes the 60-mile floating requirement feasible
