SICU / TICU RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced Surgical ICU nurse.
• May float between SICU (Surgical ICU) and TICU (Trauma ICU) depending on census.
• 13-week contract.
• Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in California.
• BLS.
• ACLS.
• NIHSS.
• 2 years of experience.
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips.

Preferred Qualifications

• Trauma experience.

Unit Details

• SICU: 10 beds.
• TICU: 8 beds.
• Ratios: 1:1 to 2:1.
• Charge nurse generally does not take patients and provides break relief.
• Nurse aides are available as safety attendants.
• Vents are supported.
• RT is available 24/7.
• Pharmacy is available 24/7.
• Telemetry is required.
• EMR: Cerner.

Clinical Focus

• SICU: surgical patients including CEA, fem-pop, EVARs, laparotomies, thoracic surgeries, postop vascular recoveries, VATs, open belly surgeries, CRRT, ECMO, and line placements.
• TICU: trauma cases, CRRT, rapid infusers, line insertions, and IABP/donor patients.

Scheduling and Float

• Every other weekend.
• Holidays rotate with core staff.
• 12-hour shifts starting at 6:45.
• Self-scheduling is used.
• Block scheduling is generally not available.
• Floating may include other Sacramento facilities.
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but can happen.
• Travelers are first to float in TICU.
• Floor orientation is 1 to 2 days with a preceptor.
