Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide nursing care on a medical/surgical unit specializing in acute care surgical patients. Care for inpatients pre- or post-surgery, including patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes, or double lumen hemodialysis catheters. Some patients may require stepdown care.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned group of patients, documenting responses to nursing interventions and physician orders.
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
• Monitor and obtain physiological data, intervening as necessary.
• Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
• Communicate care plans with patients and families, including discharge instructions.
• Delegate tasks to support staff and make referrals for patient care needs.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year.
• Experience in an acute care setting.
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.

Additional Information

• This position does not accept candidates with only Operating Room (OR) experience.
• Preferred but not required: experience with ENT and/or transplant patients.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios typically 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown patients.
