Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to a designated group of patients in the Critical Care Unit using the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources. Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, implementation of nursing interventions, documentation, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
- Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized care plans.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, including meaningful hourly rounding and bedside reporting.
- Assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
- Respond promptly to life-saving situations following nursing protocols.
- Monitor and adjust specialized equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, intracranial pressure monitors, and central venous pressure devices.
- Support early mobility efforts for ventilated patients.
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in continuous professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 3 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Coronary Care Unit (CCU) experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Ventilator management
- Early mobility for ventilated patients
- Specialized equipment monitoring
- Intracranial pressure monitoring
- Central venous pressure monitoring
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN degree.
