ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Neuro ICU)
• Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Patient Ratio: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• On-call: Not required
• Pending License: Accepted
• Neuro ICU experience is required
• First-time travel nurses accepted

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience
• ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check (updated annually) including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Foreign equivalency education evaluation and diploma required for internationally educated candidates
• Verification of highest level of education required
• Sex offender search required
• Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
• Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
• One supervisor reference within the past year (standard references for non-CTICU units)
• Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
• Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain tech/clinical roles (not RN-specific)

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (no annual update required unless positive history)
• TB questionnaire updated annually
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor/delivery, postpartum; declination accepted)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; boosters required if titers low)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination within 1 year)
  • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history; boosters if low titer)
• 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (rapid accepted)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31); declinations not allowed
• COVID vaccination series preferred

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months (minimum 85% score)
• Color blind testing required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024 (minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU and telemetry units (not required for NICU or behavioral health)

• AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
• New Employee Orientation Module
• 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
• ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
• eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
• Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)

Additional Notes

• RTO (Return to Office) greater than 7 days requires approval
• Parking cost approximately $125/month
• Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module required for all RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, and NICU
• EPIC testing is optional but highly encouraged for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience
• Medical exemptions for vaccines require facility approval; religious exemptions approved by agency
• Candidates must provide photo ID matching legal name on first day

Prior Travel Experience

• Not required; first-time travel nurses accepted
