Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Environment

• 24-bed maximum capacity med-surg unit focused on at-risk patients
• Secured unit with enhanced safety features: whole-unit video monitoring, ligature alarms, anti-barricade doors, badge-secured entrance
• Floating required
• No local candidates within 50 miles accepted
• Rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather required
• Physically active role: ambulating, reaching, moving objects over 20 lbs
• Routine contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses
• Facility operates 24/7

Schedule

• Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• Option to discuss 36 or 48 hours/week during interview

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Training

• ACLS not required for this unit
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) not required unless working in psych/behavioral health
• Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, Chemo, EFM) not required for this role
• Medication and competency exams as applicable

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 60 days of start, including alias, counties lived/worked, national and federal criminal, sex offender, social security trace, and international checks if applicable
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search must be on file within 60 days; cannot start with both pending
• E-Verify proof required
• Drug screening: Negative 7-panel within 60 days of start
• Photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) required
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days, and 2 professional references within last 2 years required

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (agency form acceptable)
• Fit mask test valid within 1 year (3M 1870+, 1860R, 1860S, or 9205) required
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption
• Negative TB test (QGold, TSpot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray and INH treatment documentation required if positive TB history
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines required; medical exemptions allowed with facility approval
• Hepatitis B series or positive/reactive titer required; boosters required for low titers; religious or medical exemptions subject to review
• Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; medical exemptions allowed with facility approval
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)

Essential Job Functions

• Ability to work full term at assigned location
• Ability to work full shift hours, take call, work assigned weekends, and at least 50% of holidays during contract
