Overview

• 13-week contract in Kearney, Nebraska
• 12-hour nights
• Department: ICU RN
• 33 beds; average daily census is 16

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Driver's License

Clinical Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
• Common patient types include trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance use, adults with sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Common drips include cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
• RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips
• RT equipment involvement includes nasal cannula to vent

Schedule

• Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: minimum of 2 holidays during the contract
• Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers are added in
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed

Floating

• Typically floats to PCU
• Occasionally floats to MedSurg
• Float assignments are typically at the same patient ratio as the home unit, usually 1:4 or 1:5

Orientation

• 1 shift of unit-specific orientation

Additional Notes

• Radius rule: 50 miles
• Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
• If placed on call and called back in, arrival is required within 30 minutes
• Weekend-only blocked scheduling may be considered
• Candidates who share a car or want the same schedule as a duo are not accepted
