Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Stepdown Unit)
• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: Not required
• Floating: Required to float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed (agency staff float first)
• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Local Radius: 60 miles (locals not accepted)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Important Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification required for RN license
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Health Requirements:

  • Initial physical exam, updated annually
  • Immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination form)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive history
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • COVID vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing staff
• Certifications: Must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; renewals required prior to start if expiring soon
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
• Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (if applicable)
• Photo: Passport-style photo required for badge
• Facility-Specific Documents: Includes signed assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality agreements, code of conduct, HR policy manual, system user agreement, user access request, job description, HIPAA confidentiality agreement, and orientation modules completion prior to start

Scheduling & Other Notes

• Block schedule accommodations may be requested but are not guaranteed
• Travelers should be aware of hurricane season (June–November), during which emergency response team assignments may be required
• Orientation modules must be completed before starting; failure to complete will result in being sent home
• Flu vaccine documentation must include candidate name, administered date, manufacturer, and clinic info

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with prior travel assignments who hold a current South Carolina or Compact RN license and meet the certification and health requirements. Night shift availability and flexibility to float within similar units are essential.
