Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Renal)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Renal)
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
• On-call: Not required
• Floating: Required to float within scope to other med/surg units as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (required)
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, and other certifications as applicable per unit/job description (check with recruiter or facility for specifics)
• IV Therapy certification may be required for select LPNs (not applicable for RN role)
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as required

Orientation & Training

• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (estimated 4 hours)
• Must complete all required facility documents including confidentiality agreements, code of conduct, and job description acknowledgment
• COVID vaccination records preferred but not required; declination form must be completed if not vaccinated
• Flu vaccine required during flu season or approved medical/religious exemption must be submitted

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card required
• E-Verify attestation and completed I-9 form required
• Annual background check including:

  • Social Security Number trace
  • Statewide and national criminal checks
  • Sex offender registry
  • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
• Education verification preferred but not required for this facility
• NURSYS verification required for RN license
• Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Respirator medical clearance required annually for patient-facing staff
• TB testing: 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start; chest x-ray if positive
• Required immunizations or titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
• Annual TB questionnaire completion required

• Local radius: 60 miles; locals not accepted for this position
• Facility uses Epic for charting
• Free parking available
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks (no guaranteed hours)
• Hurricane season (June–November) may require emergency response team participation; avoid confirming new or extension assignments during peak months (August–September) if this is a concern

Documentation & Verification

• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
• Performance evaluation dated within 12 months required
• Complete employment application/resume required
• Skills checklist may be required and must be updated annually
• Radiation badge required only if assigned to specific departments (not required for MedSurg RN)
