Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital

Position Details
- Specialty: MS Float Pool RN
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM), 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- On Call: Not required
- Floating: Will float to medical-surgical floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
- Ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensing
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- License Required: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Additional Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for certain units (Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, PCU, PreOp, Observation Unit)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) as required (not required for ER RNs)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) as applicable
- Chemotherapy certification only for Oncology Hospital Unit (specific unit)
- NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and other units as applicable
- IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs (if applicable)
Work Environment & Requirements
- Uniform: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms for all RNs
- Charting System: EPIC
- Parking: Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
- Hurricane Season: June through November; employees may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary (3-5 weeks for permanent, 24-48 hours for temporary "walk-through" license)
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, no instant tests
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Vaccinations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccinations with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccinations with boosters as needed
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and competency exams required; pediatric OR candidates may have specific preferences
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire
Orientation & Training
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
- First Day Instructions: Sent after client clearance; includes OurDay login for module completion and vaccine documentation upload
- Badge Photo Deadline: Photo must be submitted by Wednesday end of day prior to start for badge printing
Additional Notes
- Facility may accommodate block scheduling with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Radiation badges required for certain specialties (CVOR, OR, Cath Lab, Radiation Oncology, etc.)
- Sterile Processing Techs have additional physical and lab requirements
- Travelers must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements to maintain clearance and assignment eligibility
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment with a diverse patient population and a supportive team. Candidates should be prepared for night shifts, weekend rotations, and holiday coverage.
