Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), every other weekend
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you will be responsible for providing safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care. You will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans while promoting quality outcomes and customer satisfaction. The role includes supervising licensed and non-licensed staff, mentoring and precepting team members, and participating in quality improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Perform patient assessments and reassessments, making sound independent clinical decisions.
Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise patient care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
Provide education tailored to patient and family needs throughout the care continuum, including discharge.
Delegate tasks appropriately to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
Serve as a mentor and preceptor to staff, fostering teamwork and professional development.
Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
Experience in acute care nursing in an inpatient setting
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Demonstrated mentoring skills and experience
