Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), every other weekend
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
As a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you will be responsible for providing safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care. You will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans while promoting quality outcomes and customer satisfaction. The role includes supervising licensed and non-licensed staff, mentoring and precepting team members, and participating in quality improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments, making sound independent clinical decisions.
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise patient care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
- Provide education tailored to patient and family needs throughout the care continuum, including discharge.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
- Serve as a mentor and preceptor to staff, fostering teamwork and professional development.
- Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
- Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in acute care nursing in an inpatient setting
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Demonstrated mentoring skills and experience
