Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Unit: S32 Neuro IMC/PCU
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
  • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment (prior travel experience required)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have or provide proof of pending DC RN license at time of submission
  • DC RN license must be in hand prior to start date
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA or ARC)
    • DC RN Licensure
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • ACLS
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • BSN

Clinical Skills & Competencies

  • Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
    • Minimum overall score of 80%
    • 100% score on lethal rhythms section
  • Required skills include:
    • Cerner charting system
    • Telemetry and Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
    • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown care
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Feeding tube care and management
    • Phlebotomy
    • Peripheral line and PICC line care/management
    • Starting IVs
    • Tracheostomy management
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management

Work Requirements

  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Float requirement: must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
  • Orientation includes:
    • 4-hour class
    • 8-hour modules
    • Two 12-hour clinical shifts
    • Day 4 independent practice
  • Must be willing and able to accept assignments including COVID-19 patients

Staffing & Facility Information

  • Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
  • Unit nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrubs: Not provided; any color allowed without other hospital logos

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days, including multi-state and federal searches
  • E-Verify and I9 documentation required
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (updated annually)
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
    • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) documentation or titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella documentation or titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • N95 fit test within 9 months and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years

Additional Notes

  • Must complete facility-specific modules prior to start date
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams as required
  • Must provide clear photo for badge
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with neuro IMC/PCU skills who meet licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced acute care teaching hospital environment.
