Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shifts, primarily 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900 - 0730)
- Weekend and holiday rotation required
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience with adult and pediatric populations within the last 3 years
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Wisconsin RN license or Compact RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association (AHA) only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start
Required Skills and Systems
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance and Screening Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including nationwide and local searches
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening within 90 days of start (state-mandated)
- Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
- Physical exam (to meet agency standard, not facility-mandated)
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- TB test or chest X-ray with questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Varicella vaccination or titer, with exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required annually during flu season)
- Other vaccines or declinations as applicable (e.g., Tdap, meningococcal if working in specific departments)
Testing and Competency Exams
- Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric as applicable) with strict passing criteria:
- 80% overall score
- 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
- Must complete remediation if failed attempts occur, with a maximum of 3 attempts allowed
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Annual skills checklist required
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail telemetry testing
- Employment application and 2 clinical references within the last 3 years
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
- TNCC certification
- Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
