ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Albuquerque, New Mexico
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical ICU
- Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00 to 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours (contracted)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum (new contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Local Radius Rule: No locals within 100 miles accepted
- Floating: May be floated within scope to other ICUs, PCU floors, ED, and PACU to care for admitted patients
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- On-Call: Not required
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 contracted hours/week; facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- RTO Restrictions: Requests greater than 7 days require approval
- Break Requirement: 6-month break required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- ICU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Passing score on Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form
- Flu Vaccine: Required year-round with facility-specific documentation; exemptions accepted for personal reasons
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Drug Testing: Negative drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screens not accepted
- TB Testing: Negative Qgold, Tspot, or PPD within 1 year; for past positive responders, additional documentation required
- Fit Mask Testing: Required within 1 year of start; only specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodations available if needed
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer required
Background & Documentation
- Background Check: 7-year criminal check within 30 days of start, updated annually; includes SSN trace, national criminal history, sex offender, federal criminal record, education verification, and county searches
- Fingerprinting: Required onsite during orientation for NM Department of Health clearance; valid for 12 months
- Employment Application: Complete with at least 3 years of work history verification
- References: Two professional references within three years of hire
- Work History Verification: Minimum 3 years verified with detailed documentation
- Driver’s License: Valid non-local driver’s license required (identification cards not accepted); location not near public transportation
- Social Security Card: Required for verification
- Background Registrations: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start

- Special Equipment: CRRT, ECMO, Impella, IABP, ventilators, arterial lines, central venous access, pulmonary artery catheters, flotrack, transvenous pacers, Minnesota tubes, cooling devices, vasoactive drip titrations
Additional Notes
- Travelers may be asked to switch to Cardiothoracic ICU (CTVICU) with current rate honored
- No on-call requirement
- Must complete facility-specific compliance forms and attestations prior to start
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked (for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025)
