Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
- Weekend Schedule: Every 3rd weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Floating Required: Nurse will float between multiple hospital locations and services within the main Operating Room
- No on-call or holiday work required
- Charting System: Epic
- Scrubs provided
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Cardiac surgery experience
- Liver transplant experience
- Experience with craniotomies and spinal cases
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in Pennsylvania
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required depending on unit
- Primary source verification of license required
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 2 months of start date
- Fit mask test (3M 1870+ model) within 12 months prior to start (must be completed before start)
- Current Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or titer
- Negative TB test (Qgold or TSPOT within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive test
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required prior to start; exemptions require mask use at work
Background & Verification
- 7-year criminal background check including state-specific searches (PA PATCH required)
- Employment verification and education verification (official transcripts accepted)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse clearance within 12 months prior to start
- Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint results within 12 months prior to start
- Two professional references within 2 years of start date
Additional Information
- Orientation includes completion of facility-specific education modules (~6 hours) prior to start
- Pass/fail dysrhythmia exam required during orientation; failure results in contract cancellation
- Medication and competency exams required as applicable
- No prior travel experience required

Pros
Some of the nurses in the MICU are some of the best people I have ever met. Very high acuity patients but I learned a lot. Amazing teamwork and camaraderie
Cons
The facility is literally falling apart and staffing is terrible sometimes. Management is not as great and supportive as it used to be. Patient population can be difficult to work with (lots of ETOH, withdrawal, ODs, etc)
