Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Emergency Department with 101 beds
• Patient ratios typically 4:1 for medical patients, up to 7:1 for behavioral holds
• Staffing includes techs working in cardiac monitoring, triage, and unit clerks on days and nights
• Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
• Documentation system: Cerner
• Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
• Floating: No floating outside the ED; must be flexible to float within all ED sections
• Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications (must have before start date):

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Schedule & Hours

• 36 hours per week

Additional Notes

• Uniform: Navy scrubs required
• Attendance policy provided on day one
• Prior experience in a high-volume ED (>100,000 visits annually) is preferred
• Previous experience with the hospital system is a plus but not required
