Job Details

  • Unit: Emergency Department / Trauma
  • Unit Size: Acute - 36 beds, Subacute - 54 beds, Trauma bays - 6 (no travelers assigned here)
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 250-300 patients per day, 88,000 patients per year
  • Patient Types: Trauma, Burns, Psych holds (30-40), CP Center, Spinal Cord injuries (TBI certification)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per month (unit discretion)
  • Floating: Float within ER and between 4 nearby facilities (about 30 minutes apart)
  • Orientation: 2-3 shifts of floor-specific orientation
  • EMR System: Cerner (experience required)
  • Telemetry: Phillips monitors; must be able to read strips
  • Ventilator Management: Respiratory Therapists (RT) manage vents
  • Support Staff: 2 Charge RNs (light patient load), 4 Patient Care Technicians (sitters)
  • In-House Providers: 2 to 8 hospitalists or intensivists, midlevels, anesthesia
  • IV Team: Core RNs are US trained
  • Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
  • Pharmacy: Pharmacist in ER 10 hours/day, pharmacy available 24/7
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Arizona
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Neuro ICU experience
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS
  • Experience with Cerner EMR system
  • Valid Driver's License

Additional Notes

  • This is a teaching hospital; nurses may be expected to work with nursing students
  • Float policy includes 4 facilities within about 30 minutes of each other
  • Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage
  • Candidates must submit detailed profiles including unit size, hospital size, trauma level, and Cerner EMR experience
  • The hospital emphasizes sterile technique competency; failure in SIMs Lab may result in termination
  • Psych holds and complex trauma cases are common
  • 12-hour day shifts with 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period; holiday coverage based on unit needs
