Respiratory Therapist II - North Carolina (Raleigh)

Job Summary

  • Provide advanced respiratory care including airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures.
  • Perform standard respiratory care such as aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, arterial punctures, tracheostomy care, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
  • May perform pulmonary function testing and advanced procedures including UAC, UVC, IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, and blood glucose monitoring as needed.
  • Manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support when working with ECMO.
  • May transport pediatric and neonatal patients per protocol.
  • Perform all aspects of ventilator care including setup, function verification, specialized ventilator modes, patient monitoring, and weaning techniques.
  • Function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to other staff.
  • May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Night shift
  • 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICU experience preferred.
  • EPIC electronic health record system experience preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and staff.
  • Mathematical skills including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Strong reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical situations.
