Registered Nurse (NICU RN) - Phoenix, Arizona
Job Details
- Specialty: NICU RN (Level 4 NICU)
- Location: Phoenix, Arizona
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum (no contracts shorter than 13 weeks considered)
- Unit Size: 71 beds (including 17 stepdown beds)
- Patient Types: Premature infants, cardiac defects, genetic disorders, surgical cases, ECMO, and cooling patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:2 in ICU, 1:3 in Level 2
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 3 out of 6 major holidays
- Orientation: 2-3 days floor-specific orientation
- Floating: To mother-baby and labor care units (babies only)
- Charge Nurse Role: Yes, serves as a high-risk RN resource with no direct patient assignment
- Nurse Aides: 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT) per shift
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry System: Phillips
- Ventilator Management: Respiratory Therapist manages vents
- In-House Coverage: Neonatologist and midlevels available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: NICU pharmacy available during daytime hours
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of Level 3 or 4 NICU experience required
- Core Experience: 2 years of core experience in the specialty being submitted
- Trauma Level: Level 1 trauma and teaching hospital experience required
- Certifications: BLS, NRP, and Cardiac STABLE plus certification required
- EMR Experience: Cerner EMR required
- Licensure: Valid RN license for Arizona
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Must pass with 80% score within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance; maximum two attempts allowed
- SIMs Lab: Pass Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (NyICU and ED have modified requirements)
- Additional Skills: Competency in maintaining sterile field, Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes, lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Previous Travel Experience: Preferred but not strictly required
- Other Requirements: No facial piercings, only natural hair colors allowed; must not hold concurrent contracts; must have been off permanent staff at this health system for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
Additional Notes
- Facility Type: Teaching hospital with nursing students expected on the unit
- Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle service; night shift assigned to parking garage
- Vehicle: Travel nurses must have their own vehicle
- Patient Rooms: 4 private rooms on the unit
- Day 1 Expectations: Nurses will be expected to demonstrate competency in sterile technique and other nursing skills during orientation SIMs Lab; failure can result in termination
- Travel Radius: 50-mile radius rule applies; driver's license is source of truth for compliance
