Registered Nurse - Orthopedic Surgery

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

Unit: Orthopedics (J6)
Number of Beds: 32 individual rooms
Staff per Shift:
- Day: 1 charge RN, 6 RNs, 1-2 LPNs, 3 PCTs, 1 HUC
- Night: 1 charge RN, 5 RNs, 1-2 LPNs, 2 PCTs, 1 HUC
Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 5:1 (stretch 6:1)
- Night shift: 6:1 (stretch 7:1)
Equipment Used: Walkers, bedside commode, bladder scanners, CPM, sky lifts, Sara Stedy, Sara Lift, Maxi Move, vital sign machine, hover mat, bair hugger, wheelchairs
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Cerner

Job Responsibilities / Typical Procedures

Dressing changes
Suture and staple removal
Foley catheter care
Nasogastric (NG) tube management
Wound Vac maintenance and removal

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in North Carolina
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Minimum 2 years of experience in Orthopedics, including Orthopedic Surgery
Orthopedics experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

Hospital experience
Orthopedic experience

Work Environment & Culture

Team-oriented with a fast-paced environment
Emphasis on caring for patients like family

Additional Information

Floating Areas: Other Medical-Surgical units
Dress Code:
- RNs wear navy scrubs
- PCTs wear galaxy blue
- LPNs wear sage green
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Hours per week: 36 hours
