Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Tele
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (Days)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- First Time Traveler: Accepted
- Local Radius Requirement: Must live within 75 miles
- Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio on MedSurg
- Charting System: Must have EPIC experience
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (to be updated annually)
Required Licensure
- New York RN License in hand - no exceptions
Clinical Skills and Responsibilities
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- IV therapy and phlebotomy including peripheral line care/management
- Respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management
- Adherence to isolation precautions
Facility and Unit Overview
- Acute Stroke Unit with 39 beds specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders as well as acute medical patients
- Unit practices an adjustable acuity delivery of care model focused on evidence-based stroke care
Required Pre-Employment and Ongoing Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID
- 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
- Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific acceptable mask types)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, with annual TB questionnaire if applicable
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Color blindness testing (one-time)
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- References (2 within 3 years) required for certain candidates
- Employment application and work history verification required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Ability to manage a MedSurg patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:7
- Experience with EPIC charting system
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification
- Tech Cert Verification - National
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
- This is a travel contract position with a 13-week duration.
- Candidates must be able to work every other weekend and handle a moderate patient load in a MedSurg/Telemetry setting.
- EPIC charting experience is mandatory.
This opportunity is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry experience, who holds a current New York RN license and is comfortable working in an acute stroke and neurological care environment.
