Registered Nurse – Telemetry Unit (Cardiovascular)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Cardiovascular Unit – Telemetry
- 54-bed cardiac telemetry unit
- Patient types include heart failure, STEMI/NSTEMI heart attacks, stroke patients requiring cardiac monitoring, cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain, and occasional overflow medical patients
- Patients are monitored remotely and on the unit; cardiac drips are administered
Schedule & Workload
- Shift: 3 days per week, 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Call requirements: None
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6; can increase to 1:7 during call-ins
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Telemetry experience: minimum 1 year, with telemetry experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Candidate Requirements
- Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (no local candidates accepted)
- Comfortable working with the specified nurse-to-patient ratios
- Must be able to work required holidays and weekends as specified
Documentation & Compliance
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start and annually thereafter
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required (Aya Physician Statement form)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Q-gold within 1 year; T-spot not accepted) or chest x-ray if PPD positive
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of assignment start (specific mask types accepted); PAPR training available if unable to pass fit test
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
- Flu vaccine required prior to start or approved medical/religious exemption; documentation must be on file by December 15
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Employment application required prior to start
- Facility-specific confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement must be completed before starting
Additional Information
- Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- On-site EKG exam and cardiac rhythms review required only for Monitor Techs (not applicable for RN role)
- Modules (70-80) must be completed prior to start; candidates are paid for 8 hours of module completion time
- No call requirements for this position
