Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work with a surgical and cath lab patient population.
  • Experience required with chest tubes, epicardial wires, sheath/radial band management.
  • Familiarity with cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, etc.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 4:1 on day shifts, 4-5:1 on night shifts.
  • Must pass an advanced dysrhythmia (EKG) competency exam.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) nursing, including experience within the last year
  • Experience with chest tubes, epicardial wires, and sheath/radial band management
  • Familiarity with cardiac drips (e.g., Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
  • Stepdown nursing experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG.
  • Education verification matching RN specialty.
  • NURSYS license verification.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask test (annual).
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titer proof.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer.
    • Varicella vaccination or titer.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption.
    • COVID-19 vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption.
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start.
  • Two professional references required.

Additional Notes

  • Advanced dysrhythmia test must be completed within one year prior to start and updated annually.
  • Driver’s license required if driving is part of job responsibilities.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
  • Performance evaluations will be completed by unit managers after start.
  • Flu and COVID exemption forms must be completed if applicable; no need to send to facility for approval if agency accepts.
