Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Belleville, Illinois

Unit: Cardiac Telemetry Unit (Fast-paced cardiac unit)
Shift: 12-hour night shifts
Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Work 12-hour night shifts on a fast-paced cardiac telemetry unit.
• Manage critical care cardiac drips and care of cardiac patients.
• Must be self-sufficient and compliant with hourly rounding and bedside shift report with all patients.
• Floating within scope to all inpatient units at both campuses.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
• First-time travelers accepted.
• Locals accepted if signed before 12/31/25.
• No on-call required.
• No block scheduling accommodation.
• No pending license accepted.
• Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions: No greater than 7 days.
• Cardiac drip, sheath pulls, and central line management required.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required.
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required. First-timers accepted.

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) – verify with unit description.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID required.
• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Illinois fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units.
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required.
• Professional license primary source verification required (Illinois permanent license required for extension).
• NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses.
• Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel, must be current throughout assignment.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test required and must be renewed annually.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
  • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
• Annual compliance training and facility-specific documents (HIPAA, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, Dress Code policies) must be completed.
• Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).

Work Environment

• 40 staffed beds on unit, 222 beds in facility.
• Charting system: EPIC.
• Scrub color: Navy.
• Free parking available.

Additional Notes

• Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually. Oncology competency exam required for Med Surg-Oncology unit.
• References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year.
• Employment application must be completed and uploaded.
• Some units may require additional certifications such as MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), NIH Stroke Certification, or IEMA for allied health professionals.
• Candidates must adhere to facility policies or risk being sent home from shifts.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working nights on a cardiac telemetry unit in a fast-paced acute care hospital setting. First-time travelers are welcome.
