Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on Med/Surg Telemetry unit with potential to float to related units including Emergency Department.
  • Rotating day/night shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am); shift flexibility required to meet operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition and medication safety testing; passing scores required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have permanent Ohio RN license or compact state RN license in hand.
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications must be current and valid at start.
  • Certification renewals required if expiring within 30 days of assignment start.

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require approval):
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory for current candidates by November 30th; no declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel within 12 months, updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Annual eye exam (Snellen) required unless currently on assignment without break.

Background & Screening

  • Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 48 hours of contract signing; must be updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed under nursing-specific code.
  • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending but must complete prior to extension.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Photo for badge may be required.
  • Resume/CV with detailed work history required.
  • References: 2 professional references from within the last year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care experience.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and floating to related units as needed.
  • Passing facility competency exams on medication administration and ECG interpretation required at orientation.
  • Prior travel experience is accepted but not explicitly required.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility and agency policies regarding documentation, certifications, and health requirements.

Work Hours

  • 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week.
  • Rotating shifts between days and nights.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs who meet licensure and certification requirements and are flexible with shift assignments.
