Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (five 8-hour day shifts)
  • No weekend or on-call requirements
  • Weekly guaranteed hours: 36

Job Description / Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care for cancer patients by accurately interpreting and delivering radiation treatments per radiation oncologist’s prescription and instructions.
  • Perform simulations and assist in treatment planning, including tumor localization and dosimetry.
  • Participate in Brachytherapy procedures.
  • Triage sick patients to nursing for evaluation.
  • Check prescriptions, diagnosis, patient identification, and charts.
  • Schedule patients and explain pre- and post-treatment procedures.
  • Communicate and coordinate with physicists, dosimetrists, physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare team members.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to prescription and safety protocols.
  • Take and verify images of treatment areas; maintain and file documentation.
  • Transfer patients to treatment couch and maintain visual/audible contact during treatment.
  • Maintain patient markings and update as directed by physicians.
  • Reinforce physician and dietitian recommendations regarding treatment reactions and care of radiated areas.
  • Change dressings as needed and observe patients for unusual reactions, reporting and assisting in emergencies.
  • Follow radiation safety measures for patients and staff.
  • Accurately document treatment doses and charges daily.
  • Use original electronic charts at all times during treatment.
  • Set up IMRT and 3-D patients properly in CT, create immobilization devices for 2-D, 3-D, and IMRT patients, and document setup instructions and dosimetry information.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • ARRT certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

  • Electronic Medical Record system used: EPIC
  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs; adherence to employer dress code policy required
  • Number of openings: 1
