Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU Float Pool

Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 1 – 60 mile radius around Colorado Springs)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Overview

• Float nurse position covering multiple ICU units within a 60-mile radius zone around Colorado Springs, including various hospitals.
• Units include a combination of MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, and may also float to PCU/Stepdown and MS-Telemetry units.
• No home base facility; floating assignments vary by schedule and location.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:1 to 1:2 depending on acuity; may flex up to 1:3.
• High acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) require 1:1 care.
• No nurse aides on unit except for sitter needs.
• Respiratory Therapist coverage is designated but may not be present 24/7; RNs assist with respiratory troubleshooting and management.
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips (no monitor tech support).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required.
• If first-time traveler, must have 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic electronic health record experience.
• Must be comfortable titrating all critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, insulin, and others.
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory unless first-time traveler.

Scheduling & Orientation

• Schedule is set by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; flexibility required to fill gaps.
• Weekend shifts: 6-9 per 6-week schedule.
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation.
• Rare call or standby requirements.
• Orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor.
• Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation even if some modules are remote.

Additional Information

• Must secure housing that allows floating throughout the entire 60-mile zone.
• Scrub color/dress code: Any color allowed.
• Charge nurse is designated on each unit and typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary.
• Floating may include various acuity levels and units within the zone.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with a dynamic float role across multiple critical care settings within a defined geographic zone.
