Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Tele) - Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Specialty: Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (Day/Night rotating shifts 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
Note: Shifts may be variable to meet hospital operational needs; facility will try to honor preferred shifts but reserves the right to rotate.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments.
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted).
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
- Certifications required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Must pass ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate exam during orientation.
- Must carry a government-issued photo ID while on assignment.
Orientation & Testing
- ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate pass/fail testing completed onsite during orientation.
- Pass/fail testing required for all bedside RNs (except OR).
- Orientation includes completion of online training modules prior to start.
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video content must be watched before testing.
- Onboarding/modules process may take multiple days and must be completed before clearance to start.
Background & Compliance
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required within 48 hours of signed contract and updated annually.
- Must be completed under code 4723.09 (Nursing).
- Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
- Candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- Preferred but not required:
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing required.
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Eye exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates (Snellen exam).
Employment History & References
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar specialty.
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID while on assignment.
- Must be prepared to complete all onboarding modules and pass required testing before starting.
- Must be willing to work every other holiday.
- Facility uses Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and meeting comprehensive compliance and certification requirements.
