Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff

Unit Overview

• ED holds patients waiting for inpatient placement
• Primarily medical-surgical/telemetry patients
• No monitor tech in the ED
• No vents on the unit

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• Strong cardiac telemetry background, preferably 2 years
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
• Ability to titrate cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters

Clinical Responsibilities

• Care for ED hold patients awaiting a bed
• Titrate drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone
• May assist with ED tasks including vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration
• Not assigned as the primary RN for ED patients

Floating

• May float to med/surg/tele/overflow units and EDs as needed

Orientation and Screening

• 2 shifts of orientation to Med/Surg/Tele at the primary campus
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam before start, with up to 2 attempts
• Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation

Additional Notes

• Navy scrubs required
• No call required
