Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Beds: 32 total (22 stepdown beds, 10 floor beds)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • Floor: 1:5 or 1:6
• Support Staff: Clinical associates (nurse aides)

  • Overnight ratio typically 1:16 (2 clinical associates)
  • Budgeted ratio 1:8 (4 clinical associates)
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, trach to vent (dedicated RT on unit)
• Telemetry Monitoring: Tele techs monitor strips remotely; RNs do not read their own strips
• Monitoring System: Phillips monitors

Patient Population & Care

• Common diagnoses include cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, medicine, and hospitalist (med-surg) patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips such as heparin, insulin, nitro, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Self-scheduling allowed via Kronos with flexible and block scheduling options
• Weekend requirements for night shift: 3-4 Saturdays and Sundays, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays in a 4-week period
• Weekend night shift requires working every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday coverage includes one evening and one day shift on major holidays (e.g., Black Friday or Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day)
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required: travelers are first to be pulled off the unit if needed, with rotational pull to floor assignment about 1 out of every 3 shifts
• Dress code: Royal blue scrubs

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - AHA
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Experience & Qualifications

• Cardiac nursing experience preferred
• Must disclose any license hits at time of submission

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation provided
• Weekend day shifts 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Holidays as scheduled
