Required Qualifications

• Active California RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• Advanced AWHONN fetal monitoring
• 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience

• STABLE

Unit Details

• Family Birthing Center with Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care
• 4 Labor & Delivery beds and 8 Mother-Baby beds
• Typical ratios: 1:2 in Labor & Delivery, 1:1 for active delivery, 1:4 in Mother-Baby
• No nurse aides
• No telemetry
• No vents
• No floating outside Labor & Delivery or Mother-Baby
• Charge nurse present and generally does not take patients
• 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage
• Hospitalist and intensivist available during the day
• OB and anesthesia on call at night

Patient Population

• About 45 deliveries per month
• Standard Labor & Delivery, term and preterm patients, couplets, general GYN patients
• No high-risk patients
• Transfers mothers at 34 weeks and below
• Newborns on IV antibiotics and/or short-term oxygen

Additional Information

• 12-hour shifts from 1845 to 0715
• Bedside report
• Floor orientation is 2 to 3 days with a preceptor
• Scrubs are provided
• Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance
• No self-scheduling
• Travelers may make themselves available for extra shifts and trade with staff
• Holiday time off may be considered but is not guaranteed
• Travelers work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Must be strong in emergencies and able to work independently
