Pediatric ER Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Work in a Pediatric Emergency Department (separate from Main ED)
- May care for holding patients
- Possible float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Pediatric units
- Patient ratio approximately 1:5+ (to be confirmed)
- Scrub color: navy blue
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 1.5 years of Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS certification
- Current PALS certification
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
- IV certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license (must be provided within 48 hours of signing)
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Two professional references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing (mandatory before start)
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
- Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and pass/fail testing (including EKG competency) within 72 hours of signing
- Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination
- Completion of Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification (required for Pediatric ER RNs; online portion must be completed by hire date, in-person within 14 days of start)
- IV certification (required for all RNs except OR specialties)
- Annual updates for required certifications and competencies as applicable
Additional Notes
- Patient care includes pediatric emergency and possible PICU float assignments
- Facility requires strict adherence to background checks, drug screening, and health documentation policies
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies including floating policy and annual education requirements
- Fit testing and respiratory clearance must be completed prior to start; facial hair must be shaved unless approved accommodation is provided
- Flu vaccine or exemption documentation must be submitted by specified deadlines
- Candidates with name changes must provide proof and ensure all documentation matches legal name on license and background checks
