Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist - Acute Care Hospital

Location

  • New Orleans, Louisiana

Employment Type

  • Travel / Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift (8:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
  • Must work every Saturday and Sunday in the Burn Unit
  • Plus 3 additional shifts Monday through Friday (days vary)
  • Must be able to float to other patient areas as needed

Patient Population and Setting

  • Burn Unit patients with 0-100% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burns
  • Patients require physical therapy addressing pain, surgical dressings, mobility, positioning to prevent contractures and scarring
  • Caseload ranges from 2 to 8 patients per day, higher census in cooler months
  • Opportunity to assist with outpatient PT evaluations and therapy if time allows

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 1 year of Occupational Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Physical Therapist experience accepted
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Certifications and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID matching all documentation
  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Required verifications within 30 days of start: EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA) may be required depending on unit
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months, updated annually
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) updated annually
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination signed within 12 months
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with exemptions and declinations accepted
  • Physical exam within 12 months (not required by facility but required by placement agency)
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually

Additional Information

  • Scrubs provided
  • Must submit employment application with 7 years of work history and no gaps over 30 days
  • Must be able to comply with facility appearance policy and other facility-specific requirements
