Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit
• Patient population includes pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above (depending on procedure)
• Surgical specialties include general surgery, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, hysterectomy, mastectomy, spine, and bariatric surgery
• Floating to other units may be required; confirmation of this expectation is needed before finalizing assignment
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Block scheduling not guaranteed but grouping shifts may be possible

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications (as applicable)

• BLS (required for all candidates)
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification, and others may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with unit details)

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire updated annually
• Immunizations:

  • Tdap within past 10 years
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
• Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
• Annual fit mask test (N95 preferred) or onsite fit testing available
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption is granted (exemptions require facility-specific forms and early submission)

Documentation & Onboarding

• 2 professional references required
• Current application/resume required
• Skills checklist updated annually for specialty
• Completion and acknowledgment of multiple facility-specific policies and forms prior to start, including but not limited to:

  • Standards of Appearance, Dress Code, Social Media Policy, Confidentiality Agreement, Compliance Acknowledgement, Masking Requirements, Parking Registration, and others
• Background checks required within 30 days of start, including 7-year criminal background check and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
• Facility-specific documents such as campus map, demographic info, medical and work history, workplace wellness consent, patient care disclosure, policy procedure acknowledgment, and education booklet attestation must be reviewed and completed prior to start

• Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced environment with surgical patient care
• Floating to other units is expected occasionally
• Holiday work expectations are clearly defined and must be accepted
• Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted for this travel assignment
