Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: ED Boarder - IMC RN
- Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts
- Patient Care: Manage admitted patients boarding in the Emergency Department awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Minimum Experience: 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
- Licensure:
- DC RN License required prior to start
- Pending DC license accepted at time of submission with proof, but must have license in hand before starting
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
- Minimum overall score of 80%
- 100% score on lethal rhythms section
Required Skills
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner
- Clinical Skills:
- MS/Telemetry and Telemetry monitoring
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Feeding tube care and management
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
- Renal failure care
- IV therapy and phlebotomy, including starting IVs
- Heparin protocols
- PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia)
- Nasal cannula use
- Isolation precautions
Preferred Skills
- Experience with:
- Cardiac telemetry
- ER holding area
- PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
Additional Information
- Charting system: Cerner
- Medication system: Pyxis
- Scrubs: Any color allowed
- COVID-19: Must be willing and able to accept assignments including COVID-19 patients
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and federal/state screenings
- Drug screening within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) documentation or titers
- Hepatitis B titer or series or signed declination
- Varicella documentation or titer
- Annual fit mask (N95) test within 9 months of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Completion of facility-specific modules and attestations prior to start
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
