Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) facility near downtown with local amenities.
  • Evening shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (14:30 to 03:00), totaling 36 hours/week.
  • Must be willing to float within the department as needed.
  • Patient ratios may vary due to high patient volume; expect ratios from 1:4 up to 1:5 or more during surge periods.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York.
  • ED - Emergency Department (3 years of experience).
  • ED - Emergency Department experience within the last year.
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • TNCC.
  • NIHSS.
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience with Epic.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Emergency contact form completed prior to start.
  • Background checks including 7-year work/school history, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks (updated annually).
  • Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN staff).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Fit mask test completed within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted).
  • Immunization or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or documented chickenpox history)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (September 1 - March 31).
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required.
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable).
  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
  • Facility-specific documents including job description acknowledgment, welcome packet review, Omnicell form, and photo for badge (headshot on plain background, no head coverings).

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ED staff; expires every 3 years).
  • Color blindness test prior to start (no expiration).
  • Annual skills checklist.

References

  • Two professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
