Operating Room RN Travel Contract

Overview

  • Specialty: Operating room

  • Shift: Days, Friday through Sunday, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Weekend schedule required
  • On-call required: 1 shift per week
  • Floating: May float within skill set, rarely
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Local candidates not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • General OR and trauma experience required
  • Works with all service lines except cardiovascular

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • OR - Operating Room (3 years of experience)
  • OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by American Heart Association
  • CNOR
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • General surgery case experience: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy partial/total, Whipple
  • Neurology case skills/experience: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
  • Orthopedic case skills/experience: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed reduction of fractures, Open reduction of fractures
  • Organ donation experience
  • Code response experience
  • Malignant hyperthermia management
  • Electrosurgical units operation
  • Fiber optic light sources/cords operation
  • Hana tables operation

Case and Clinical Experience

  • Bariatric: laparoscopic-assisted cases
  • General surgery: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, inguinal/umbilical hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, mastectomy, partial/total thyroidectomy, Whipple
  • Neurology: cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
  • Orthopedics: arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, closed and open reduction of fractures
  • Plastic surgery: free flap microvascular
  • Transplant: organ donation
  • Urology: cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy
  • Trauma: amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries

Additional Clinical Skills

  • Emergency response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia
  • Blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety
  • Specimen handling and labeling, universal protocol/time-out, urinary bladder catheterization
  • Equipment experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
